Participated in 106th Meeting of Korean Chemical Society

We participated in Korean Chemical Society's 106th national meeting in the colourfull city of Daegu, South Korea. KCS organizes two meetings in a year to better share views, findings of its members. It is a fact to note that Korean chemical industry is the second largest economy and is in top five biggest chemical industry in the world. Few friends from School of Chemical Engineering, Yeungnam University participated to the meeting and I presented my synthetic work which was titled as "Efficient Synthesis of Pyranocarbazole Derivatives by EDDA-Catalyzed Reaction." as a poster.

Basu Panthi defended his PhD in chemistry from Baylor University, Texas on 28th of October. We would like to congratulate him for successfully completing the doctorate degree and also like to wish him for his future.

His PhD research was related to organometallic electrochemistry. The complexes used were rhodium diphosphine acyl complexes. His project involved the synthesis of complexes with different diphosphine and acyl groups including fluorinated ones, characterize them by infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, linear scan voltammetry, bulk electrolysis, X-ray crystallography, elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, study the stability and reactivity of the synthesized complexes, study redox induced reactions (mainly decarbonylation), identify the intermediates and finally propose the reaction mechanism.

Eastern Region Chemical Symposium organized by the chemists of eastern part of Nepal on May 14-15, 2010.

In the eastern part of Nepal, Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multiple Campus, Biratnagar(Tribhuvan University) has played a vital role in the production of highly educative manpowers. Recently, Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multiple Campus, Biratnagar has opened M.Sc. programme in Chemistry and Physics. As we know Biratnagar itself is an industrial area, hence to develop new technologies in the industries, research activities are essential. For this purpose, Department of Chemistry, Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multiple Campus, Biratnagar(Tribhuvan University), Nepal has established a research lab. in the campus and started the Ph.D. programme to flourish research activities. The Chemical Symposium and other seminar activities are very essential for the chemists to enhance their knowledge in the research activities in the national and international fields. These types of programmes, especially the Chemical Symposium will be beneficial for the young chemists in the eastern part of Nepal to update in the research developments and chemical education. This symposium is also useful for the graduate and post-graduate students in Chemistry for the eastern part of Nepal. The Eastern Region Chemical Symposium organized by the chemists of eastern part of Nepal on May 14-15, 2010.

Korean Gov Scholarships for Undergraduate study: students from developing countries including Nepal could benifit

The Korean Government Scholarship Program for an Undergraduate Course provides international students with the opportunity to conduct advanced studies at higher educational institutions in Korea in order to promote international exchanges in education and mutual friendship between the countries.

This program gives 100 scholarships for 59 different countries, 2 for Nepal. It is for 4+1 year.

Scholarship Payment

(1) Scholarship Period: March 1, 2011 ~ February 28, 2016

(2) Scholarship Benefits: roundtrip airplane ticket or airfare, Monthly Allowance: 800,000 won per month,  full tuition and entrance fee exemption, Settlement Allowance: 200,000 won upon arrival, Repatriation Allowance: 100,000 won upon completion of studies, Korean Language Training Expenses, Medical Insurance for major accidents and illnesses during their scholarship period.
