Regional Chemistry Seminar Organized at Biratnagar


Chemists from eastern, Nepal organized a two day seminar in Biratnagar this weekend. The seminar was organized with the collaboration of Nepal Chemical Society (NCS) and Department of Chemistry, Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multiple Campus.

Thirty speakers presented their research findings in the seminar including invited lectures. Among the poster presenters (13 altogether), Shova Neupane secured first position whereas Nabin Basnet got second position. Two students, Arun Karna and Bihari Yadav were awarded with third position prize. Organizers said such competition among students encourages and motivates them for research work.


The vice chancellor of Purwanchal University, Nepal was the chief guest of the program and president of NCS Dr. Deba Bahadur Khadka was honorable guest. In addition Gita Didi regional director of Brahma Kumari spiritual university awardee of Pokharmal Rathi Dharma Sanskriti award  was present in the seminar as a special guest. Dr. Ajaya Bhattarai coordinated the seminar.

Akash Deo, currently studying at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada, Andrapradesh, India, donated  a chemical separation instrument to the chemistry lab of MMAMC, Biratnagar. A new scientific instrument (UV Visible Spectrometer) was introduced in the seminar. The spectrometer was purchased using funds collected  from crowd funding that was coordinated by Dr. Basant Giri.

At the end of seminar, eastern regional chapter of Nepal Chemical Society was formed.
