Why not you choose physics or biology or mathematics or engineering?
There are hundreds of thousand of people in this profession. Chemistry is not an easy subject though. Many people I met have said they found chemistry as the most difficult subject. Some may have come to this field because of personal interest but I think many came because of job availability.
In twitter, people are expressing their views on why they became chemist with a hashtag #IAmAChemistBecause. Similar hashtags are becoming popular in twitter recently.
